Recently the towns of Spring Hill and Columbia have discussed annexation of an area south of Denning Lane. Denning Lane lies within the urban growth boundary of Spring Hill and has become the target of discussion due to a subdivision proposal in that area. Denning Lane is where historic Oaklawn Plantation is and a 55 and up community called Southern Springs slated to be built by Pulte Homes.
The Columbia Daily Herald cites that Columbia’s request to move the Urban Growth Boundary of Spring Hill to enable annexation is likely due to existing utilities present in the area that are already served by Columbia. Keeping the existing utilities in place would save developers from the expenses of moving the utilities to Spring Hill Utilities.
Current:
Victor Lay, City Administrator for Spring Hill said “Obviously it’s common knowledge that they’ve been lacking in growth, This is an area that’s next to us and if it builds out they’re expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of potential of 400 homes. They’re looking at it like ‘this is an area that would give us a shot in the arm and would be good for Columbia.”
